According to data from today's edition of the Coalfield Progress, I believe these are the current rankings for girls basketball in Region D and by district.
Region D ranking is winning percentage of all games played.
Results of last night's games are not included.

Leave the DRAMA to the MAMA'S
District rankings are the number of games won in the district of total games played in district.
Region rankings are the number of games won of all games played.
The district rankings are cut and paste from the Coalfield's website. I put the data on an Excel spreadsheet and calculated the Region rankings.
Not sure how else to do it.

That's okay, just strange to see some listed where they are and be considered "ranked" there based on their overall record. I always thought there was more to rankings than just the W/L columns. Again, not meaning to step on any toes - thanks for the info, good reading.

I agree it does look strange to see some of the teams ranked the way they are but overall records can be a bit confusing. For example, Gate City girls are a perfect 4-0 in district play but dropped a couple out-of-district/out-of-region games which lowers their overall winning percentage. Yet, they are probably considered a strong candidate to repeat as Region D champs.
But, it's about mid-season, and I thought it was kind of interesting to see how teams are stacking up in the districts and region.

St. Paul lost to Castlewood, and I'm not sure of the other loss.

Hmmmmm, so explain exactly how Gate Cities Girls would be ranked 3rd when they beat Clintwood's girls pretty soundly on Jan 2nd

But, Gate City's overall winning percentage is 81.82%, while St. Paul is 84.62%, and Clintwood is 90.91%
Do I think Clintwood or St. Paul are better teams than Gate City? No way! They just happen to have a higher winning percentage right now. That could change a lot in the second half of the season.
There is no exact science when you think about rankings because some teams play tougher schedules than others.

There is no exact science when you think about rankings because some teams play tougher schedules than others. But, if you look at the top 8 teams in both boys and girls, I think you have a pretty good sample of what you might see in the Region D playoffs.

WINNING PERCENTAGE HAS NOTHING TO DO IT!?
I mean GC lost to VA High(43-49)who are 11-1.
VA HIGH WOULD BEAT EVERYONE IN REGION D HANDS DOWN! A REMATCH WITH VA HIGH WOULD BE WAR AND WORTH THE MONEY TO SEE AGAIN!
They also lost to Sullivan South (41-59)
I'm not sure on there record but Sullivan South would beat most if not all the REGION D TEAMS teams.
